English Summary: Canada saw a sharp increase in international student arrivals in August 2026, with 37,090 new study permit holders entering the country. This figure is nearly six times the number recorded in earlier months this year. However, the overall intake of new international students between January and August 2026 dropped by 71 percent compared to the same period in 2024. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada IRCC data also shows a 63 percent decline in combined new student and worker arrivals in the first eight months of 2026 compared to 2024, reflecting government caps on study permits implemented to ease pressure on housing and services.
